Would a kind Postscript fluent person explain this error to help
troubleshoot a problem?

ERROR: syntaxerror
OFFENDING COMMAND:

STACK:

/LWCQPA+
/FontName

All I could find online was a general statement on "syntaxerror".
This is happening under Mac OS 10.2.8, middle of a multipage Word v.X
document sent to HP LaserJet 2300 (over Appletalk/ethernet) or to a
Laserjet 5M (over IP/ethernet) It hits something in the document and
following pages disappear.

Thanks very much.

All this really tells you is that 'something was wrong'.

I would think that they 'aren't printed' rather than disappear.
PostScript is an interpreted programming language, when it encounters an
error it stops.

This 'looks' like it may have come from a PDF file, did you export a PDF
file as EPS and incorporate it into your document ?

I'm afraid there isn't enough information to resolve the problem,
perhaps you could post the file somewhere (or a reduced version) ?

Later thought, it looks like the name of a font has been corrupted in
some way, and the interpreter is trying to interpret the second part of
the font name (the part after /LWCQPA+) as code.

Did you use an EPS file on this page ? If so, where did it come from ?
Has it been transmitted as text over ftp, or any other medium which
might 'convert' line endings ? If you do this to a binary EPS file it
will be hopelessly corrupted.

I believe Mac OS X converts ALL print jobs to PDF on the way from the
Application to the printer. It's a Word document with a few imported
charts and graphics. I am unsure whether the imports contain EPS code
(I know DeltaGraph does this). But I was told printing stopped with a
"text" page.

I apologize for the lack of detail. I've been trying to help someone
with a new computer, printer and this problem - by telephone messages.
When I can see it in person, I will try to narrow it to a problem
with Word, with the OS,

Thanks again.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. After much "fun" I found a
single font (~MathType) installed into the user's font folder by a
graphing program was the culprit.
