Breaking up 11x17 PDFs into 2 pages

I have some large PDF documents with 11x17" pages, each of which
consists of two side-by-side 8.5x11" pages. Is there an efficient
way to split these 11x17 pages into twice as many 8.5x11 pages, and
reshuffle the pages to the correct page order?

Thanks,

Dave

If it were me....I would import each page twice into InDesign and redo the
layout. Of course I don't know what software you have. You can also take it
to a print shop and have them print it out full size and cut it in half.

Since pages aren't made up that way...at least I don't, maybe the person who
made it can unclick where it "print as spreads" and remake the PDF. Or...you
can see if there is anything about breaking spreads in the software you do
have.

These are scans of 8.5" x 11" newsletters, printed as 11x17" pages,
folded in half and stapled in the middle. Therefore, I only have the
images available. The available software includes Adobe Acrobat Pro
6.0, and all the free GNU/Linux tools such as Image Magick. It seems
that I could use Image Magick to export to TIFF, crop into two
individual pages, and reconstruct the PDF, but I was hoping for an
easier way.

Thanks,

Dave
